Child ADD & ADHD

Do you have any of these concerns about your child?

Does your child find it difficult to finish tasks?

Does your child lose things frequently and have difficulty paying attention?

Is your child fidgety in class?

Does he/she interrupt others and have trouble maintaining focus?

Has your child’s teacher expressed concern about ADHD?

Is medication the only way to treat ADHD?

Many people who struggle with ADHD symptoms find great relief in medication management.  However, research shows that specific behavioral and family interventions, in addition to medication management, can also improve symptoms.  A Journeys counselor trained in the assessment and treatment of ADHD can be a powerful way for your child to gain the skills they need to succeed at home and at school.

A Journeys Counselor Can Help

If you or others have been concerned about your child’s behavior, a Journeys counselor can help.  ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a disorder of the brain that causes typical behavioral patterns. Within this disorder are three subtypes:  inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive, and a combination of both inattentive and hyperactive.  It is important to seek professional help to receive an accurate diagnosis.  There are other disorders/issues that can mimic true ADHD.  A professional has been trained to look at several factors that may be contributing to the behaviors.  Figuring out the root cause of your child’s symptoms is the first task.  Working with a Journeys therapist can help you identify the best ways to manage your child’s symptoms and create a support network within your own family.

We generally recommend scheduling an initial assessment with a Journeys counselor to evaluate what your child or family's specific needs are, as well as determining best options for treatment and more precise answers to the questions you may have about the process. The Journeys team strives to provide you with the best fit professionally, and will happily direct you to the counselor with the best personality, expertise and approach for your family.
